What is the IoT Internet of Things

What is the IoT Internet of Things? What is it? Well if you ask some they give this long-winded explanation: The Internet of things is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. Wikipedia

What is the IoT Internet of Things in Layman Terms

What is the IoT Internet of Things

The Internet of Things in simple terms is a network of internet-connected devices that can collect data and in turn share data across a network. In other words, IoT is a term to describe things or objects that connect to the Internet.

For example, my Apple Watch is part of the IoT. My Echo Dot, Yes! Is Alexa or Alicia as my husband calls it? Yes, it is part of the IoT. What about the Ring Doorbell? Yes, that made the list too. Any device that connects to the Internet is part of the IoT. It seems that over the last few years without much to do, IoT has quietly taken over the world. As a matter of fact, by the end of 2020, there were over 31 billion devices connected to the Internet of Things, providing more than three devices per person on earth.

I know that is true in my family. I know that just my husband and I have more than 3 devices each. It’s probably more like 5 or 6. Our dryer recently decided to take a rest and in looking up the troubleshooting guide my husband said: “Do you know that you can turn the dryer on from your cellphone?” Yes, another IoT!!

So What Is An IoT Devices

You are probably thinking of computer, iPad, iPods, iWatch, etc. You would not be wrong. But, there are so many more items and objects to consider.

Think about the chip in Sparky’s neck, or collar, yes, it is part of the IoT. It is computerized so that if Sparky decides to go for a walk alone and can’t find his way back home, you will be able to track him by way of the chip. Cool right?

As it turns out almost anything can be connected to the Internet of things. You can buy IoT coffee pots, Iot Beds, IoT cars. The cars are very cool. Mine has the GPS built-in and when it is in my garage close to the WiFi the GPS automatically updates. I don’t have to do anything. It is always updated to the latest and greatest road maps.

IoT Internet of Things in Business

Just like all new waves of progress business, if you don’t get on the wave you will be washed away. However, with this wave, I don’t see why any business would not want to get on and ride this wave all the way to the shore. As I see it, this is progress at it’s best! It will make the business so much more profitable. Save time, money and resources for everyone.

Not just large businesses but small and medium-size businesses can use this technology and grow to the next level using it also. Any company that has been using Square to accept payments, is using an IoT device.

World’s First Peer-to-Peer Wireless Network

What is the IoT Internet of Things
Helium Hotspot

I am so excited to be part of the world’s first peer-to-peer wireless network, The People’s Network, that provides a secure and cost-effective way for low-power IoT devices to collect and share data on the Internet.

Blockchain-Powered

Being built from the ground up, the Helium blockchain powers the network and also serves as the underlying technology.

Internet of Things

This blockchain acts as a ‘cryptographic notary‘; therefore, this transaction data from all devices, including connectivity time and the location, is added to the blockchain and is immutable, inspectable, and censor-resistant. How confusing is that? If you want more information and a better understanding, you can go here to get a better understanding of this technology: Learn More about Helium Blockchain
